We believe that God has given the role of leading His church to spiritual men with Christ-like character (1 Tim. 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9; Acts 6:3). There are two primary offices which comprise the leadership of the local church: Elders and Deacons.
EldersElders are also referred to as bishops or overseers (e.g. 1 Tim. 3:1; Phil. 1:1). In addition, they are referred to as shepherds (1 Pet. 5:1-4; Acts 20:17, 28) and as pastors (Eph. 4:11; meaning shepherd). Elders are those who are probably in mind when the term, "leaders," is used (Heb. 13:17, 24; cf. 1 Thess. 5:12-13). Elders are given the responsibility of leading, teaching, preaching, shepherding, and ruling the Lord's local church (Acts 20:28-32; Titus 1:5; 1 Tim. 5:17; 1 Pet. 5:1-4). They are chosen for their calling, spiritual character, and their giftedness (cf. 1 Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; Rom. 12:8; Eph. 4:11; Acts 20:28). The elders serve in council and so together lead the church. Their division of labor is that of "ruling" elders, and "teaching and preaching" elders (1 Tim. 5:17), though all elders are to be "apt to teach" (1 Tim. 3:2; Eph. 4:11).
DeaconsThose serving with but subordinate to the elders are the deacons (meaning to serve or minister, Phil. 1:1; 1 Tim. 3:8-13; cf. Acts 6:1-6). They are to serve the church especially in those ministries which free and enable the elders to focus on the priorities of their ministry (Acts 6:2, 4; 20:24-35). Consequently, the deacons take on a variety of ministries including benevolent needs, business needs, and various arising needs (Acts 6:1-6).
Lone Hill Church is lead by our elders with our deacons serving in auxiliary to our elders.
